Trainee Solicitor

What I most enjoy about working at the Postcode Lottery is the shared sense of purpose that connects our team - not just here in the UK but right across the Postcode Lottery Group. Our purpose and values, alongside a passionate, inspiring and committed team makes this a place we're all proud to be part of.

Clara Govier, Managing Director

What you will do as Trainee Solicitor

This is a unique opportunity to complete your two-year traineeship with Postcode Lottery. Rather than following the traditional four-seat rotation, you will gain broad, hands-on experience across a wide range of legal, regulatory and governance matters. Working closely with teams across the business, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of an in-house legal team within a highly regulated organisation. You will join our Legal and Licence Team, supporting the Head of Legal together with our Privacy and Commercial Solicitors. You will also work alongside our Compliance Manager, helping to ensure that Postcode Lottery complies with the Gambling Act 2005, the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) and other applicable legislation. In addition to your work within Legal and Licence, you will have the opportunity to support our Charities Team on charity governance matters, giving you exposure to another specialist area of practice. We appreciate that as an External Lottery Manager, we deal with legal matters that you will not have come across in your degree or during your diploma. We are not looking for an expert; we are looking for someone who is keen to learn and fits in with the ethos of our company and our team.

Interviews will be held face-to-face Wednesday 26th & Thursday 27th August 2026, if you are not able to make these dates please state upon your application.

Key activities and responsibilities you will expect:

About you

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify risks and apply sound judgement to a range of legal and regulatory matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to draft clear, accurate legal documentation and build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, enabling you to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build positive working relationships across teams and provide a professional, customer-focused service.
  • A genuine eagerness to learn and develop, demonstrating curiosity, adaptability and a proactive approach to building your legal knowledge and experience within an in-house legal team.

About us

A marketing-driven charity organisation

Our purpose: a better world, for everyone

Since our start in 1989, we have raised over €15 billion for thousands of charities.  Together with our players and 1,500 fellow team members in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway, you'll be helping to create a better world every day.

Inclusion and equal opportunities

People are at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s our team, our players, or the thousands of good causes supported, our aim is to play our part in creating a fairer, more equal world. We are open to ideas and are committed to creating a culture that is inclusive, representative and celebrates diversity in everyone. But we are not perfect. We will always strive to do better – that’s just who we are.
