We manage multiple society lotteries promoted by different charities supporting a wide range of causes. Since 2005, our players have raised more than £291 million for over 4,000 charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

Role Summary

We are seeking and accomplished and experienced Head of Communications to join our growing team in Edinburgh.

We need a positive individual that is passionate about promoting People’s Postcode Lottery as a leading charity lottery. Working in a fast pace environment we need someone with a strong strategic focus backed by sound understanding and experience.  As part of the Senior Management Team, the successful applicant will lead a team of five and work across numerous departments as well as with our sister lotteries internationally to support our business objectives.
The successful candidate will be able to nurture and develop their team, plan activites taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as involvement of other departments, deadlines and resources requirements. They will be ready and able to take initiative, provide advice on the best course of action and make decisions fast. The job requires someone with experience across all communication areas.

 

Key activities and responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Communications Department, encompassing all internal, external and corporate communications
  • Lead CSR strategy team and related communications
  • Advising on strategic communications across the organisation
  • Lead a proactive and reactive press office, identifying opportunities to protect and enhance the brand in print, online and across social channels
  • Support team engagement, driving internal communications and team culture through a suite of channels, including film production, intranet, events and targeted e-newsletters
  • Support HR in employee branding activities.
  • Work in partnership with the Marketing department, developing a communications strategy in support of the business objectives and aligned to the sales objectives
  • Sit on the Senior Management Team, which oversees business strategy
  • Support group English-based corporate communications across the lotteries
  • Support People’s Postcode Lottery public affairs activity
  • Continue to grow the communications team as a central support function for all departments

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in a senior communications role in either an NFP, agency or corporate environment
  • Experience of managing teams, in particular supporting learning, nurturing their development and progression
  • Ability to think strategically, identify what needs to happen, who needs to be involved and then delivering
  • Proven experience of building trust, developing internal and external network to maximise opportunities
  • Demonstratable experience in creating innovative communication strategies using digital channels and new media as well as traditional means
  • Experience of working in society lotteries or highly regulated environments would be advantageous
  • Degree or appropriate qualifications
  • Sound knowledge of UK-wide media and extensive contacts and established relationships within the print, broadcast and online sectors

For this role we are looking for a confident, strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. A natural leader who can build relationships across different departments and respresent the business at all levels. A self sufficent, positive, highly motivated individual who is passionate about promoting charities and the lottery and adapts well to a constantly changing envrionment.

Additional Information

This role will require travel both nationally and internationally on an occasional basis. Office hours are 9am – 5:30pm, 37.5 hours per week; however some weekend work may occasionally be required.
